An artisan story that links four generations: Tre Cime Shoes is more than a brand, it is a piece of history of the Venetian footwear district. This is where the Zorzi family’s adventure began, thanks to their great-grandfather, who used to make clogs, the typical shoe of peasant memory. It was his grandfather Igino who transformed this activity into a footwear company, carried on with passion by his son Adriano, his wife Ivana and their sons Stefano and Andrea.

He introduces us to the company and its relationship with vegetable-tanned leather: “Tre Cime is a brand that combines quality, comfort and elegance with a touch of vintage style reinterpreted in a modern key. We prefer clean and simple models, to highlight the materials and workmanship. Our strong point is the care we take over the manufacturing process: we use ‘Ideal’ stitching, with visible stitches. A construction technique that is difficult to find nowadays because it requires time and dedication, but it brings out the value of a handmade shoe”.

Tre Cime’s manufacturing skills have not eluded the well-known brand Luis Trenker, who has found in the Veneto-based company a partner of excellence: He even dedicated a whole post to it on his official website! This activity has encouraged the Zorzi family to create their own line of products, with a distinctive trait that combines quality and comfort, in which to channel “the strength and reliability of the technical shoe into a more casual and elegant version”. Such a project, however, requires a careful choice of materials.

“We have always used leather, but we usually chose chrome-tanned leather: in the Venetian footwear district there has never been a historical link with vegetable tanning, as there is in Tuscany. Years ago we started looking for new materials that would allow us to renew our offer while remaining faithful to the distinctive values of our brand. This is how, about 6 years ago, we discovered vegetable-tanned leather, a ‘traditional’ material that has all the characteristics of an innovative product: resistance, reliability, robustness, unique beauty, and eco-sustainability. But above all, it has a truly fundamental advantage both for us and for our customers: breathability, an essential requirement for the feet’ health. A feature in which vegetable-tanned leather is absolutely unique. What can we say? It’s won us over!”

Tre Cime has not completely left chrome-tanned leather behind, but the goal for the next few years is to cover 100% of the product range with vegetable-tanned leather.

“We also try to convey these values to our customers, a fairly heterogeneous public, generally aged between 25 and 45, who are often unfamiliar with the very concept of tanning. We simplify and spread the knowledge of tannin, explaining its countless advantages and applications. Direct contact with the product and the material itself helps us a lot in this mission: touching it, smelling its perfume. A sensory experience that is crucial as a purchasing lever and that is driving us to open a showroom in October at our production site in Altivole, in the province of Treviso. Although the pandemic has forced us to slow down, we are going to start work again soon on a new section of our e-commerce site in English – currently our only official sales channel – in order to address foreign markets, especially in Northern Europe and North America, where the combination of Made in Italy and vegetable-tanned leather is particularly popular. We also want to diversify our offer by introducing other leather goods, while keeping our essential style.”
